How to Uninstall Apps in Chrome OS

by

If your Chrome OS device is low on memory, it is wise to delete the unwanted apps to free up some time. Moreover, it will also speed up your Chromebook.

Luckily, it is very easy to uninstall apps in Chrome OS. Here’s how to do that:

Please note that you won’t be able to uninstall system apps in Chrome OS.

Using App Drawer

Look for a round icon at the bottom left of the screen. Click on that and then on the up arrow to open App Drawer which will show all the installed apps on your Chromebook.

Right click on the app you want to uninstall and then select “Uninstall” option.

A new pop-up will open with “Uninstall” button. Click on that, and the app will be removed.

If you have many apps installed on your Chrome OS device, then type the name of app in the search field which will then show its icon and then follow the same steps as above.

If the app you want to uninstall is not listed in the App Drawer, then it is not an app but rather a Chrome Extension.

To uninstall that, open Chrome browser.

  • Click on the “three horizontal dots” button at top right.
  • Click on “More tools” -> “Extensions”.
  • Search for the extension you want to uninstall and then click on “Remove” button.

Using Settings

Alternatively, you can also uninstall the apps from the “Settings”.

For that, open Settings in Chrome OS. Under Apps, click on “Manage your apps” option. There you will see list of all installed apps.

Use the search tab at top right to search for the app you want to delete. Click on the “App” to open its settings.

Click the “Uninstall” button there to remove it from your device.

Using Google Play

You can also uninstall the app on Chromebook using Play Store. To do that, open Play Store and click on your profile picture at the top right.

Select “My apps & games” option.

Look for “On this device” section, and click on “Installed” tab.

There you will see all the apps installed on your Chrome OS device.

Conclusion

If your Chromebook has slowed down or you just want to free up space on your computer, removing un-required apps is the best practice.

To remove the un-necessary apps in Chrome OS, you can use the App Drawer, Settings or using Google Play.
