Microsoft is finally bringing the much awaited tabbed view in Windows 11 File Explorer. Though this feature is still in progress and is hidden, you can enable its early preview, thanks to ViveTool utility.
So here is how to enable tabs in File Explorer on Windows 11:
1. Download ViveTool
Download Vivetool-vx.x.x.x.zip from GitHub web and place it on your desktop.
Extract the downloaded .zip.
2. Copy Extracted Folder Path
Copy the path to extracted folder.
If you have extracted the ViveTool zip file to your desktop, then the path would be something like this: C:\Users\your-user-name\Desktop\ViveTool-v0.2.1
3. Open CMD to Execute Commands
Open start menu by pressing “Windows” key. Type CMD and select “Run as an administrator”.
Type following command in CMD to navigate to extracted ViveTool folder:
cd C:\Users\your-user-name\Desktop\ViveTool-v0.2.1
Once you are in that directory in Command Prompt, type following command and hit Enter:
vivetool addconfig 34370472 2
Once done, restart your computer.
Now, you will have tabs enabled on your Windows 11 PC File Explorer. If you would want to revert back these changes, simply repeat the above steps and in step # 3, type following command and hit Enter:
vivetool delconfig 34370472 2
Conclusion
There you go folks. With tabs feature, you can have organise Windows look especially if you used to work on multiple File Explorer Windows, because each Window can be now replaced with tabs. It is similar to having different tabs in your internet browser.
